Playing Our Music
Mother says that very early on when we are children
We have a strong memory for learning anything
She lets my younger brother learn the violin
And lets me learn the piano when I am four
I like to play Dolly’s Dreaming and Awakening
But teacher says that my Dolly’s dance steps
Are too slow after she wakes up
I do want to make her jump up to dance
But I’m always concerned about what’s on TV
If and when Popeye goes through a test
Younger brother stealthily turns up the TV
As Popeye heatedly fights the hoodlum
Suddenly the door bell dings dongs
We quietly turn off the TV and rush to the music room
The melody of Do Re Me…
Resounds from the top of the staircase
Father and Mother are very happy to enter our room
Younger brother and I breathe hard
We have a secretly understanding smile
